Peter and the Wolf

Jack and I went to see the Virginia Symphony perform Peter and the Wolf this afternoon. It was part of the Symphony's P B & J series. How cute is that?

Stations were set up before the show for kids to try out many of the orchestra instruments. We only had time to visit a couple of the stations before we had to go to our seats, so I let Jack choose which ones he wanted to try. He chose the violin and the snare drum.

The first thirty minutes of the performance, the orchestra played Mother Goose Suite by Maurice Ravel. Jack liked that, but he leaned over several times to ask me when Peter and the Wolf would begin. When it did, he was a rapt listener. They had a narrator who was a wonderful storyteller who told a small part of the story, and then the orchestra "illustrated" it. It was wonderful, and Jack and I just loved it.

Daddy and Me Night

Jack was beyond excited to take his dad to Daddy and Me Night at preschool. The event started at 6:30. He started asking me to call his dad at 4:00 to be sure he would be on time. I finally relented and let him call John at 5:00. By 5:45, Jack had John buckled into his seat and heading to the party. Ha!

I remember telling John a couple of years ago when he was feeling sorry for himself about how attached the kids were to me that eventually they would understand that John is cooler and more fun than I am. Much to my despair and to John's delight, the shift has occurred with Jack.

Megan and Kathy Spring Break 2014

Aunt Kathy and Megan visited us in Virginia for Spring Break last week. We had such a fun time visiting with them. The boys were thrilled to have two of their favorite people visit. Near the end of their stay, Luke decided it was time for Aunt Kathy to go home and bring Jake and Uncle Kevin back. Megan was supposed to stay here indefinitely. Aren't we sad that isn't the case?

Some highlights from their trip were our hike at Hoffler Creek, our trip to First Landing State Park to picnic and play/walk on the beach, and my birthday parties at Charissa's house and at home. Jack loved introducing "The Johnsons" to his teacher. I'm sure Luke enjoyed having new people to laugh at his antics and to "just tease". I enjoyed our nightly walks and chats around the neighborhood and simply spending time with two of my best friends. I love you guys.

For Grandma and Grandpa

As I was putting Luke's toys away after rest time today, I spotted this coat that John once wore. I thought it might be the perfect fit, and if so I wanted to take some pictures for Jane and Marion. I took really cute pictures and then played with them on my editing software forever before giving up and calling in an expert who has taken the boys' pictures a few times. I am so pleased I did. Feast your eyes on these, Grandma and Grandpa. Know that I intended for these to be Grandma's birthday presents, but John is insisting that I post NOW.  I should also mention that Aunt Linda made the scarf.

Strider

Many, many miles have been put on this Strider bike. It's almost guaranteed there will be smiles every time it comes out of the garage.
