7 Months Old

Jack is seven months old today. What a joy the last seven months have been for me and John.

So, what has Jack been up to? Well, he has a pretty efficient Army crawl that he uses to get pretty much anywhere. Whenever he spots his doggies, he can get across the living room to touch them in little time. Sparky has realized that the baby now moves. However, it takes Winston by surprise every time Jack yanks on his fur or ear. Winston actually let Jack bite his ear the other day with nothing more than a look to show that his feelings were hurt. Speaking of biting, Jack has five teeth now. There are four on the bottom and one snaggly tooth off to the side on the top. I think Jack's favorite doggy is Lucy. He grins from ear to ear whenever she is around. He laughs when she jumps onto the furniture, and there isn't anything funnier than Winston chasing Lucy.

Jack continues to be the sweetest baby. He loves to cuddle as much as he loves to play. He thinks his daddy is the greatest thing since sweet potatoes. Last night John was doing karate moves in the living room that had Jack in a fit a giggles. It made this mother's heart happy to see the two of them enjoying each other. Jack also giggles if someone fake sneezes, but you have to really exaggerate the sneeze. Can you just imagine our house with a karate chopping daddy and a fake sneezing mommy?

Feeding Jack is going so much better than it was a month ago. He only gags every once in awhile now, and it is usually when I introduce a new food or have the texture of his oatmeal wrong. So far Jack has eaten rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, sweet potatoes, carrots, butternut squash, acorn squash, bananas, and peaches. I have some pears that I will feed to him as soon as they are ripe, and I bought the strainer I need to fix peas. So, he'll have some new tastes to gag over in the coming days.

Jack now makes more noise. He has a pretty funny "growl" that makes us laugh. He is being raised by a pack of dogs, you know! Unfortunately, he's figured out how to whine. It's this little fake cry that he repeats over and over until I help him. I hope he wakes up one morning and has forgotten how to do that. When he wakes up, he yells and I swear to you that it sounds a lot like mom. He is repeating the sounds ya and da, so either daddy or doggy is sure to be his first word.

All in all, life is so happy in this Seaton house. We are falling more and more in love with our little man every day. We eagerly look forward to what the next month will bring.

I Want Editing Software!

I want editing software in the worst way! One of my Facebook friends (Jessica Williams) liked the pictures I took of Jack in his hats. She turned my ordinary photos into works of art! Imagine how cool this blog would be if only I had the editing software she has.

Jack's First Thank You Note

Dear Grandma and Grandpa,

Thank you for playing with me while Mommy and Daddy went to their friends' house. It was so much fun to show you all of my toys and how my jumper works. I hope you will come again very soon. I'm a lucky boy to have grandparents like you.

Jump, Jump, Jump

Jack has just recently figured out how to jump in his Ross's exersaucer. He thinks it is more fun than ever to play with that toy now. I am going to need to buy Jack some new toys soon. Everything in the toy basket is too simple. It's time for some stacking rings and shape sorters and other fun stuff.

Erin, Sarah, and I took the kids to Gregory Mills Park in Smyrna today. The kids had a blast despite being a tad too young for the park. The mommies agreed that this would be the hangout next summer when the kids are a little older.

Brylie wasn't too sure that she liked the water, so her mommy had to get in with her. Who knew that those little legs could run that fast!

Ross is up for any adventure! He was drenched within minutes of entering the park.

He made his mommy try racing through the spray with him. She decided it was too cold and didn't want to do it again.

Jack was eager to play in the water, but he wasn't very excited about the water spraying him.

He's a Peach

Teaching Jack how to eat solid foods has not always been so peachy (pardon the pun), but on Sunday Jack really enjoyed licking the juice from Grandma Jane's peaches.

I never imagined it could be difficult to teach a baby how to eat, but it has been a definite source of frustration in our house. So far Jack has liked sweet potatoes and butternut squash. He absolutely hated carrots, and had to be tricked into eating applesauce. The poor kid gags whenever I introduce something new that he doesn't like. Which in turn makes me feel bad because I actually made the food. I often feel the same way when I make something for dinner that John isn't crazy about. Luckily John never cries at the dinner table, which is Jack's next move after the gagging. Ugh!

However, we trudge on. Next up for Jack- green peas. I've heard that they are harder to make the right consistency, so we'll have to see how pureeing them goes. I've got two tools that I really like. Grandpa Marion gave me a baby food maker for Christmas last year that steams the food and purees it all in one machine. I love it. I also have Grandpa Thorn's Vita-Mix blender, which is worth every penny Dad spent on it.

If only I could just let Jack eat peaches everyday for the rest of his life. Wouldn't that just make life peachy!

The Inchworm Part 2

It's definitely not pretty, but it's effective. Jack can now get across the room in a relatively short amount of time using this move. He can get up on his hands and knees, but he prefers "the inchworm" to move. Movement is usually accompanied by grunts or his customary fake coughing. It's only a matter of time before we have a real crawler on our hands!

Fun With Friends

We've been having a good time with some of Jack's friends this summer. In the past, Jack hasn't been very interested in other kids. That's not the case now. He was mesmerized by both of the youngsters below.

Our neighbors have a little boy named Hudson who Jack thinks is pretty fun. Hudson is a few months younger than Jack, but soon they'll be playing together.

Brylie and her mom came over recently. Jack watched every move little Brylie made. She just started crawling, and Jack was very interested in her movement. Jack thinks having friends is lots of fun!
