Changes

Many of you have been missing these faces, so I'll just start this post with what you've missed the most!

There have been some big changes for our family that I haven't shared on the blog yet. John was offered a job in one of his company's regional offices. Because the position fits John's career vision and because life seemed to be pushing us in that direction, John accepted the job. So, our family has moved to Atlanta, GA. We found a nice house in a cul de sac to rent until either we find our place in Atlanta or John moves on.

For now, all of us really love where we've landed. The neighborhood has a pool, a playground, a walking path, and kids the boys' ages. The cul de sac is wonderful for the boys to play in and ride their bikes around. There are plum and pear trees in the backyard that Jack is pretty excited about. A stream runs along the walking trail with a bridge that crosses it. I'm sure you can imagine the boys' delight when they discovered minnows (shish) swimming in it. Jack immediately found the largest stick around and went "shishing". This is all good.

Dinner Date

Tuesday night is kids' night at IHOP. Kids eat free. Knowing that, I decided to take the boys out for free pancakes tonight. When I first brought up the possibility of a meal out, Jack told me he wanted to bring his wallet and pay. Of course I played along with his plan. He was outside when I went to collect him and help him into the car. His wallet was still inside. Neither of us remembered until I was at the very end of the driveway waiting for traffic to clear so we could be on our way. "I FORGOT MY WALLET!!!" I heard from the backseat. I tried telling him that I would pay tonight and he could get dinner next time. No dice. So, I ended up backing the car down the driveway and running in to get his wallet.

Jack told every waiter, waitress, the hostess, and many of the other customers that he was buying dinner for his mom and brother tonight. And then when dinner was over, he followed through. He took a coupon (for Jumper's Playhouse) out of his wallet, gave the check out girl 11¢ and his credit card (John's old college id). The girl played along perfectly, sliding his card through the keyboard of the computer, handing Jack his change (11¢), and passing him a receipt. I sneakily handed her my debit card while Jack was packing it all back into his wallet, and we headed for the door. "Mama, wasn't dinner delicious? Next time you can pay," Jack said as we walked to the car. He's some kid.
