Four Month Doctor's Appointment

When I took Jack to his two month doctor's appointment and the nurse gave him his shots, I nearly cried with him. This time I went prepared. I read an article in Parents about managing vaccination pain. One of their suggestions was giving the baby sugar water right before the shots and then drizzle it over his taste buds as he got the shot. It totally worked. Jack did not even cry this time! He was too busy enjoying his first taste of sugar to even notice that he was in pain!

The doctor is pleased with Jack's progress. He weighed in at 16 pounds 1 ounce, which is the 75th percentile. He is 25 inches long, which is the 50th percentile. Once again the doctor assured me that breastfed babies tend to be a little chunkier. Dr. B. gave us the nod to begin feeding Jack rice cereal sometime between now and his six month appointment. I may give it a couple more weeks before we begin because Jack's tongue thrust reflex is still noticeable.

A smiling Jack and I passed two sobbing babies on our way out to the car. Sugar water is amazing!

Hand Me Downs

I have been very fortunate that my friend, Erin, had a baby about five months before I had Jack. This has been nice for lots of reasons. Every worry I had during pregnancy, I could call Erin and find out if the same thing happened to her. I've been able to watch her son, Ross, and know what is ahead for Jack. Erin decided to be a stay-at-home mom too, so we get to have lots of playdates. And, Ross has handed lots of stuff down to Jack from blankets to onesies to our most recent hand-me-down, an exersaucer. Look how much Jack loves it! Aren't we lucky? Thanks, Erin, Ross, and Nick!

What a Difference a Month Makes- 4 Months Old

4 months old 3 months old

I can't believe that today is Jack's four month birthday. He has grown up so much in the last month. He "talks" a lot now and giggles when he thinks something is funny. He has become quite a daredevil. Being bounced around and playing a little on the rough side are some of his favorite things, which is probably why he loves his daddy so much right now. Jack's interest in the dogs has multiplied. Taking his picture today was a challenge because all he wanted to do was stare at the doggies. We visit the pediatrician on Friday, so I will give you a weight update then. I will tell you this much, our little man is sturdy! Oh what a difference a month makes!

Water Baby

We took Jack to the neighborhood pool for the first time today. After the initial shock of the cool water, he loved it! We're one step closer to realizing John's dream of Jack joining the swim team.

Memorial Day Weekend

John had a four day weekend, so we got to spend a lot of time together this weekend. Jack is getting to be so much fun to play with now. Jack especially likes to play with his daddy since Mommy doesn't play nearly as rough as Daddy! Those teeth are making Jack a tad bit crabby. He's drooling all over the place and putting everything in his mouth, thumb included!

Love These Onesies!

I sent my friend, Merc, a plain old red onesie, and this is what she sent back! We got a dinosaur, a crab, a doggie, and a whale too! Thanks, Merc!

Toofers!

And a close-up on those teeth in case you can't see them in the video!

Happiness

Happiness is a bottle that is just the right temperature, a mommy who gets your piggies, a dog's kiss, an octopus toy, a bath,... How did we get lucky enough to have a baby who is so happy all of the time?

Balloons Are Fun Part II

Remember when I told you that Jack loved Grandma Jane's balloon? Well, after bouncing it around for him for awhile, I finally decided to just tie it to his ankle. He thinks it is a blast, and the teacher in me thinks I am teaching him cause and effect! Perhaps the teaching method is a bit unconventional, but whatever works!

Big Boy Stroller

Jack got a new stroller last week. Unfortunately, since it has been raining so much, he really hasn't had a chance to try it out. Today, during a break from the showers, I took Jack for a stroll around the neighborhood. He seemed to like sitting up and facing forward. He actually stayed awake for our walk because there is so much to look at when you aren't just staring at Mom the entire time. Once this rain moves out of our area, I hope to get Jack out to walk every morning before it gets too hot.

Balloons Are Fun

One of Grandma Jane's co-workers gave her a balloon to celebrate her birthday, but I think Jack liked it way more than she did. The little fellow couldn't take his eyes off it! He was so interested in it that it ended up in our car for Jack to watch it at home. The funny thing is that as much as Jack loves the balloon, Lucy and Winston hate it. Lucy sat on my lap tonight and growled at the balloon. Now that's a fierce dog who sits on her mistress's lap and growls at a balloon. Obviously she was trying to protect me. Shame on those of you who believed that she was being a chicken and wanted me to protect her!

Gaining Interest

Jack has finally become a little interested in his toys. Last month, he discovered the toys that hang above him on his playmat. Yesterday, he grabbed at the toys I held out to him. He even decided that this toy elephant was worth sucking on though not much later he dropped it for his fist. The daily achievements that Jack makes astound me.

My Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades

Jack doesn't like the sun in his eyes. He nearly jumps from my arms as he tries to dodge its rays. I was in Target yesterday and found these sunglasses which have a band that wraps around his head so he can't pull them off. So cool.
