Grandma's Taking Us to the Zoo Today

Grandma and I took the boys the The Nashville Zoo this morning. I had to chuckle on the way to pick Grandma up because Jack started singing the Raffi song about Mommy taking the kids to the zoo, but he changed the words to Grandma's taking me to the zoo today, zoo today, zoo today. Grandma's taking me to the zoo today. We can stay all day.

This was the first time Luke was really aware of all of the animals. He was particularly impressed with the meerkats and the fish. I think Jack's favorites were the slimy creatures in the amphibian house. I know what was not his favorite, the bird that landed on his arm in the aviary. He shook the poor little fella off so fast that I'm sure the bird saw stars and said, "Let's go, Grandma."

Luke wanted to see everything from up high. He had quite a system down, one that I was afraid was going to land him in the tiger's cage. Check it out in the photo below. Don't worry, either Grandma or I were always right there to grab on if necessary.

Tigers, meerkats, snakes, and giraffes are all fine and dandy, but the carousel took top honors. If Luke could rank all of his life's events, I am certain that his carousel ride would take top honors. The kid grinned, chuckled, and waved at every carousel animal. He kept looking at me and his grandma as if making sure we were having as much fun as he was. It was pretty sweet.

Tonight I'm absolutely exhausted, but it's all worth it to share the kids' excitement and love for life.
