Two Very Good Reasons to Love Saturdays

1. Jack and I make pancakes for everyone's breakfast. Luke loves his hotcakes with syrup, but it often ends up in his hair like it did this morning.

2. John gets to spend time with the boys in the morning, their happiest time of the day.

This is the boy...

Someday I won't remember every little thing the boys did or the things that made them happy. That's really what this blog is all about for me. I write about their lives so that someday I can go back and be reminded that Luke thought it was great fun to walk backwards when he was fourteen months old or that Jack pretended he was a lobster when he was almost three.

This is the boy who gives big kisses,
Who loves being chased,
Who follows his brother,
Who climbs to danger,
Who says hi so sweet,
Who chases with books,
Who peekaboos,
Who laughs when he's tickled,
Who walks backwards to beeps,
Who cuddles with a pug,
Who loves the tub,
Who babbles orders,
Who eats Rice Crispy treats,
Who follows the cat,
Who gets mad when cold,
Who is always smiling,
Who acts shy when flirting,
Who has the bluest eyes.

This is the boy who first stole my heart,
Who giggles at Max and Ruby,
Who likes butter and parmesan on noodles,
Who pretends he's a lobster,
Who plays underneath his covers,
Who reads to his brother,
Who loves Curious George and Bob the Builder,
Who likes to be chased,
Who has a great giggle,
Who digs in his sandbox,
Who rides his Strider,
Who likes Percy the best,
Who confesses when naughty,
Who loves the dentist,
Who is impulsive when tired,
Who listens to books,
Who wraps you up in hugs,
Who hates soap in his eyes,
Who climbs at the park,
Who likes to cook dinner,
Who coos to babies,
Who is a great big brother,
Who doesn't nap,
Who learned to hum,
Who has an imaginary friend, an elf named Buddy,
Who Skypes with Megan,
Who has a memory forever,
Who uses words like scampered,
Who identifies feller bunchers and every other digger.

These are the boys who make my days complete,
Who make all the laundry worth it,
Who make me smile and laugh.

Gingerbread Trains and Time With Daddy

Way back at the beginning of December, Megan texted me a picture of a gingerbread train she saw at Walgreens that she was sure Jack would love. From then on, I checked every time I went to Walgreens to see if it was on sale. Well, it finally was 50% off and since I figured that Jack didn't care whether we made the train before Christmas or after, I bought it. Boy was Megan ever right. Jack and I spent an hour or so this morning building the train. He loved every single minute of it. I think the only way he would have enjoyed it more was if it was Megan helping him instead of Mom.

John has been off work since before Christmas. It has been so much fun to have him participating in our daily life. He misses out on a lot since he is usually leaving right when the boys are waking up, and he doesn't get home until the "witching hour". I feel sorry for him because he doesn't often get to see the boys at their happiest and most fun times of the day. This week has been another story, and John has taken advantage of his time at home. Today he took Jack on a 4 mile Strider/mountain bike ride! I could tell by the excitement in their voices how much fun they had together, and it made me one happy mama. Coincidentally, one of my resolutions for 2012 is to make sure that at least 3 times a week I take the boys somewhere to play or ride bikes. I hope Jack is as excited to ride with me as he was to ride with his dad today.
